Davis and Woodland host inaugural Yolo County Cross Country Championships Some fine cross country racing took place in the tranquil hills of the Muller Vineyards located in Yolo, just north of Woodland. This inaugural meet, hosted by Davis and Woodland High schools, attracted nearly 800 runners. Davis teams had a fine day as the varsity girls were 2nd and the varsity boys took 5th against some of the best teams in the Sac-Joaquin section. The frosh/soph Blue Devils were 1st for girls and took 2nd for boys. JV girls finished 3rd and JV boys were 9th in team scoring. The varsity teams were anchored by fine performances from Kaitlin Gregg (5th) and Thad Seiracki (6th). The girls varsity packed very well as Veronica Miqueo (14th), Paige Stewart (16th), and Nadine Ibrahim (18th) finished within seven seconds of each other. Dustin Schelegle (29th), Jeremy Del Cid (34th), Scott Halliday (47th), and Steve Buchanan (54th) rounded out the scoring for the boys, finishing within 50 seconds of each other. Brendan Gregg and Patrick Lynch ran great races in a large frosh/soph field, taking 1st and 2nd places in a field of 171 runners. Grace Pettygrove (7th) and Sarah Chan (10th) paced the frosh/soph girls with top ten finishes. Rachel Cosca (6th) and Kara DiBiasio (13th) were the top finishers for the JV girls. Tim Brown was 35th and David Abramson finished 38th for the JV boys. The Blue Devils race again Wednesday at Lagoon Valley Park in an MEL dual meet against Vacaville.
