DHS scored overpowering team wins in the varsity boys, junior varsity girls, and frosh/soph girls divisions.
The freshmen boys, despite missing their top two runners due to injury and illness, ran as inspired as they have all season and finished a surprising third as a team. The frosh boys were led by Reinert Toft, Daniel Gonzalez, Noah Henry, William Young, and Tim McIntyre.
The sophomore boys, perhaps the most improved group from last season, were also first in team scoring. Scoring for the sophomores were Hamid Naemeh, Kabir Jensen, Greg Jorgensen, Matt Kinkle, and Matt Wall. Nico Higuera and Matt Weisker were the displacers (6th and 7th runners) for the sophomores.
The frosh/soph girls dominated their race, putting their scoring five (Halley Rainer, Anna Maria Gilbertson, Lindsay Stebbins, Kate Latsch, and Val Schmidl) in the top eight spots.
The junior varsity girls followed their frosh/teammates by putting their scoring five (Lisa Walters, Charlotte ter Haar, Dana Randall, Lara Schoen, and Melinda Zavala) in the top 11 spots.
The varsity girls (fourth as a team) ran together as a pack at less than full speed, choosing to preserve energy for next week’s section championships.
The varsity boys, also on cruise control, still finished 60 points ahead of second place Franklin.
The junior varsity boys took second place behind solid efforts from Euma Matthews, Braeden Van Deynze, Brian De La Mora and Bryan Soto.
Individual race winners were Halley Rainer (frosh/soph girls), Lisa Walters (junior varsity girls), and Euma Matthews (junior varsity boys).
Other top DHS finishers were Charlotte ter Haar (second junior varsity girls), Dana Randall (third junior varsity girls), Braeden Van Deynze (second junior varsity boys), Anna Maria Gilbertson (third frosh/soph girls), and Trevor Halsted (fourth varsity boys).
