JV and Frosh/Soph summaries
The girls JV and Frosh/Soph teams came away with team titles at the Sac-Joaquin Subsection meet on November 6th. Their victories, along with a second place team finish for the varsity girls, demonstrated the depth of the DHS girls' program.
The JV girls were led by senior Lauren Seabury's third place finish. Remarkably, all seven JV runners finished in the top 25 in a field of 80 runners. Amanda Eberle (14th), Amy Elson (15th ), Kara DiBiasio (17th), Laura Bimson (19th), Kim Elson (20th), and Rachel Perez (25th) rounded out the scoring. Eberle, Bimson, and Perez each recorded personal best times on the hilly Frogtown course. DiBiasio was only off her personal best by 3 seconds despite not feeling well before the race.
The Frosh/Soph girls scored a convincing win even though they didn't have a finisher in the top ten. Their group running demonstrated the importance of minimizing the time spread between scoring runners. The top seven DHS runners advanced as a team to the section finals (Sarah Chan, Greta Brandt, Marissa Shaw, Palina Chordas, Lucy Pagel, Rebecca Woo, and Julia ter Haar). Monica Engel and Maggie Bloxham were rewarded for their efforts as they qualified to the section meet as individuals. Chan, Brandt, and Chordas all had substantial personal best times on the Angels Camp course. Cheyenne Feliz, who just missed a qualifying spot, had a huge personal best time, 2 minutes and 49 seconds faster than last year!
The JV boys were without some firepower as senior Kevin O'Brien was taking SAT tests and junior Jason Meierhenry was injured. Alex Theg led the way with a 30th place finish in his first run on the 2.9 mile course at Angels Camp. Finishing in the top half of the field were Brian Bartlett (60th), Stephen McPhee (62nd), Matt Solomon (78th), Josh Van Eyken (83rd), and Gary Day (86th).
The freshman boys were moved up to the sophomore division so DHS could field a complete team. It was tougher for the freshman, but they did a great job. Freshman Kenny Durell had an outstanding day, finishing 5th overall to advance to the section meet. Freshman runners Jonathon Kelly (34th), Zach Bonner (57th), and Adam Boone (73rd) ran very competitive times that would have placed them in the top 15 in the freshman division. Sophomores Frank Tempest and Tirey Pagel were 97th and 128th. Pagel's time of 14:24 was 3 minutes and 49 seconds faster than last year. Way to go Tirey!
Great job Blue Devils - You should be proud of yourselves!
