Sac-Joaquin Section Division 1 Track and Field Championships
The best of Davis High's track team competed Friday night at the finals of the Sac-Joaquin Section Divison 1 track & field championships. The Friday finals concluded a two day meet where the top ten athletes in each event qualified for next week's Sac-Joaquin Section Masters meet at Hughes Stadium. The top three at the Masters meet will advance to the CIF state championships, also to be held at Hughes Stadium. Davis continued its tradition of success in the distance races, advancing multiple runners in the girls 1600 meters, girls 3200 meters, and boys 3200 meters. Chelsea Reilly had the best finish of the day, taking second place in the girls 1600 meters with a time of 5:10.82. Her teammate, Jonah Weeks, was tenth with a lifetime best of 5:22.62. Weeks and Kaitlin Gregg finished seventh and tenth in the girls 3200 meters. Brendan Gregg, Thad Sieracki, and Scott Halliday all advanced in the boys 3200 meters, taking third, fifth, and ninth respectively. Reilly, Brendan Gregg, and Sieracki ran strategically in their races to qualify for Masters, preferring to run at less than maximum effort in order to be better rested for next week's competition. All three have aspirations to qualify for the state championships. In other running events, Abas Jemal was sixth in the boys 300 meter hurdles and Kara DiBiasio was seventh in the girls 400 meters. In the field events, Lauren Guerrieri was sixth in discus. Amy Elson had a lifetime best of 33 feet 10 inches in the girls triple jump, good enough for tenth place and a trip to the Masters meet. Also competing in next week's Masters meet by virtue of ninth or tenth place finishes in Wednesday's trials will be Kiran Sheffrin (girls 300 meter hurdles) and the boys 4 x 400 meter relay team.

Brad Doering (Yuba City), Brendan Gregg, Jake Mathews (Folsom), and
Thad Sieracki lead the 3200 meter final at the Sac-Joaquin Section Championships.
Other notes:
Sophomore Patrick Lynch did not qualify for Masters, but had two lifetime bests, finishing 13th in the boys 1600 meters with a time of 4:34.81 and finishing 11th in the boys 3200 meters with a time of 10:06.34.
There is a trio of super sophomores on the DHS track team; Chelsea Reilly, Lauren Guerrieri, and Brendan Gregg. They all are on the state leaders list and are among the best sophomores in the state. Reilly is the sixth fastest sophomore girl for 1600 meters with a time of 5:00.44. Guerrieri has the eighth best discus throw by a sophomore girl, 125 feet, 11 inches. Gregg is the ninth fastest sophomore boy for 3200 meters with a time 9:28.39.
Senior Thad Sieracki continues on the comeback trail after missing three weeks with a leg injury. His cross training appears to have helped him maintain his fitness. He was the MEL 3200 meter champion last week in his first race back and ran a very comfortable 9:48.31 for fifth place at yesterday's SJS finals. Sieracki's time of 9:26.30 at the Arcadia Invitational on April 8th puts him 33rd on state 3200 meter list.
Sophomore Chelsea Reilly's time of 5:00.44 for 1600 meters at the Sacramento Meet of Champions was better than the At-Large state meet qualifying time of 5:00.66. The 1600 meter field at Masters will be very strong and if the pace is quick, it's possible that five or six girls, including Reilly, will be under the At-Large time and earn a trip to the state meet.
