November 3, 2007 Angels Camp The Davis High Cross Country team began its march toward the post-season on Saturday with a highly successful day at the Sac-Joaquin Subsection races at Angels Camp. All seven DHS teams qualified for next week's Sac-Joaquin Section championship meet, matching the efforts of the team from 2003. In 2006, 44 Davis runners qualified for the section championships. This year, 53 runners will represent DHS at the section meet, which will be held at Folsom High school. The DHS girls swept all three of their races, both in the individual and team competition. Laurynne Chetalat raced to first for the Varsity girls, while teammates Hilary Teaford and Dana Randall won the JV and Frosh/Soph races. The boys' teams all advanced to section championships as well. Individually, Kenny Durell led the way with a 5th place finish in the Varsity boys. Tyler Wilken (10th, JV Boys), Dard Hunter (8th Sophomore boys), and Kabir Jensen (4th Frosh boys) were the highest DHS finishers for their divisions. Next week's section championships will be the last meet of the season for the JV, Sophomore, and Frosh teams. The boys and girls varsity teams are aiming to finish in the top two in their races, which will qualify them to compete at the State Championships in Fresno on November 24. The girls' team is considered the favorite to capture their sixth straight section title. The boys are looking for their fourth straight section title, but will battle against a very competitive Jesuit team, which moved up from Division 2 to the Division 1 level this season. In addition, there will be strong competition from Sheldon (Delta River Conference champions), Grace Davis (Modesto Metro Conference champions), and Modesto. DHS will attempt to snap Jesuit's string of 15 straight Sac-Joaquin Section cross country titles.
