What a great trip everyone! Everyone represented our team very well both on and off the course!
62 Davis High cross country runners made the trek to the 57th annual Mt. San Antonio College Cross Country Invitational. Over 12,600 high school athletes competed in the two day event, the largest in the United States. The 2.95 mile course at Mt. SAC is legendary because of its three large climbs, the Switchbacks, Poop Out Hill, and Reservoir Hill. The course is a benchmark for runners in the western United States as they can compare their times from year to year and with those who have run in the past. Highlights of the day included first place finishes by Brendan Gregg (varsity boys) and Kenny Durell (freshman boys) in their respective races. Gregg's time of 15 minutes 50 seconds is tied for 3rd fastest ever recorded by a Davis High athlete on the Mt. SAC course. Jonah Weeks (freshman girls) took second place in her race. Other medalists were Patrick Lynch (7th varsity boys), Scott Halliday (8th varsity boys), and Monica Engel (15th sophomore girls). In team scoring, the sophomore girls had the highest finish of the day, taking 2nd place in their race. The varsity boys finished 4th as a team in their section. The varsity girls opted to compete in the very competitive Individual Sweepstakes race and finished 11th as a team. The Blue Devils compete for MEL titles on Wednesday in Napa at the league championships.
