MEL Center Meet Lagoon Valley Regional Park Vacaville CA Davis High cross country teams raced at Vacaville's Lagoon Valley yesterday in an MEL center meet against the other five league schools. The varsity boys are emerging as the favorites for the league title as they continued to improve as a team. They easily topped the field with a low score of 25 points. Napa was second with 44 points. The Blue Devils top four runners, Thad Sieracki, Brendan Gregg, Scott Halliday, and Patrick Lynch grouped well, finishing within 41 seconds of each other. Sieracki was the race winner with a time of 16:38. The girls engaged in a tough battle with state ranked Vacaville. Chelsea Reilly, Kaitlin Gregg, and Nadine Ibrahim ran step for step with Vacaville's top three runners for most of the race with the first six places being separated by only 28 seconds. Reilly finished strong for the individual win and Gregg and Ibrahim were fifth and sixth. The lady Blue Devils had seven runners in before Vacaville's fifth runner, but it was not enough to top Vacaville's 2-3-4 finish as the Bulldogs escaped with a narrow 31-33 victory. The frosh/soph boys and girls teams continued to dominate with convincing wins. Kenny Durell finished first for the boys and Julia ter Haar was second in the girls race. Davis competes again Saturday at the Yolo County Invitational in Yolo, co-hosted by Woodland and Davis.
