Athletes of the Meet: Matt Cosca and Claire Karban
Davis High opened the 2006 cross country season at the Granite Bay Invitational on Saturday. The boys and girls varsity squads captured first place in their contests. The boys margin of victory was a slim four points over rival Jesuit, 51-54. The girls finished nine points ahead of St. Francis, 77-86. Brendan Gregg and Chelsea Reilly were individual winners in the varsity races. Patrick Lynch and Zach Bonnner were fifth and ninth respectively for the varsity boys. Jonah Weeks and Jenna Fritz followed Reilly with eighth and 19th place finishes for the varsity girls. In other races, Matt Cosca was seventh for freshmen boys, Euma Matthews was fifth for sophomore boys, Charlotte ter Haar was 15th for freshmen girls, and Claire Karban was sixth for sophomore girls. In the Open co-ed race, Tyler Wilken finished 10th and Laurynne Chatelat was 17th overall and the first female finisher. The Blue Devils next race is September 9th at Vacaville's Lagoon Valley Classic.
