Muller Ranch - Yolo, CA October 1, 2005 Davis and Woodland High schools hosted the third annual Yolo County Championships on Saturday at Muller Ranch in Yolo. Over 1000 athletes participated in 11 races on the hilly vineyard trails. Davis High had a very successful day, capturing both the varsity boys and varsity girls titles. The boys held off a strong challenge from Sheldon High with a great effort from Brendan Gregg, who finished in second place, and superior pack running from Patrick Lynch (10th), Scott Halliday (11th), Kyle Buchoff (16th), and Zach Bonner (19th). The Blue Devils finished with 50 points to Sheldon's 66 points. Chelsea Reilly led the way for the varsity girls with another fine race despite taking some time off earlier in the week to rest a sore ankle. She finished in second place. She was followed by Jonah Weeks (13th), Rebecca Woo (15th), Allison Manderfield (19th), and Halea Meese (32nd). The DHS girls finished comfortably ahead of second place Woodcreek, winning by a score of 57 to 114. The underclassmen did their part as well with second place team finishes from the junior varsity girls, junior varsity boys, and the freshman boys. The sophomore boys and frosh/soph girls were fourth in team scoring in their races. Individually, Alex McKee-Ota was first in the junior varsity boys race and Matt Petersen took first place for the freshman boys. Other top finishers were Julia ter Haar (4th junior varsity girls), Emily Dimond (7th frosh/soph girls), and Adam Boone (14th soph boys). The Blue Devils compete again next Wednesday in Davis vs MEL foe Vacaville.
