Davis High Cross Country runs well at the Clovis Invitational
Girls finish second in championship race!
Lots and lots of best times!
The Davis High cross country team competed this weekend in the Clovis Invitational, held on the state championship course at Fresno's Woodward Park. The varsity girls came within one point of winning the girls championship race, falling to southern California's Crescenta Valley 109-110. Chelsea Reilly and Laurynne Chetelat led the way with fourth and fifth place finishes. Their times of 18:02 and 18:09 are the two fastest times ever by DHS girls at Woodward Park. DHS alum, Sarah West, set the old best time of 18:10 in 2001 when she finished third at the state championships. Jonah Weeks finished in 26th place with a time of 19:08, tied with Kaitlin Gregg for 5th fastest ever at Woodward Park. Nora Norvell and Maddie Hall rounded out the scoring with 44th and 45th finishes respectively.
The boys finished eighth in the boys championship race. They were led by Brendan Gregg and Patrick Lynch with sixth and 18th place finishes. Gregg's time of 15:27 was the best ever by a DHS runner, one second faster than Luke Gibson's 15:28 at the 2000 state meet. Gibson finished third in that race, only two seconds behind the winner, JJ Duke of Clovis. Lynch's time of 15:43 was a big personal best, putting him third on the all time DHS list. Mitch Danforth (66th), Kenny Durell (99th), and Zach Bonner (102nd) completed the scoring for the Blue Devils. Danforth, Durell, and Bonner each had personal best Woodward Park times.
DHS also ran teams in the regular varsity divisions. Allison Manderfield finished 23rd to lead the girls to a fifth place team finish. Antoine Koehl (83rd) was the best DHS finisher for the boys with a time of 17:47.
