The Davis High Track and Field team competed at the Chico Invitational on Friday, April 23. The meet featured top athletes from all over the Central Valley. The Blue Devils posted a variety of season best and personal best marks. Both the men’s and women’s 4x100m relays began the day by running their fastest times of the season: 46.46 and 53.21, respectively. In the women’s 400m dash, Junior Kara DiBiasio ran a personal best of 62.67. This time got her a lane for finals where she ran 63.26, placing her 5th overall out of 33 competitors. In the High Jump sophomore Anna Jelks placed 10th overall with a jump of 4’8.00.” Maia Kostlan, Lauren Guerriere, and Valerie Dickinson represented the ladies in the throws. Guerriere, only a freshman, placed 17th in the shot and 24th in the Discus. Dickinson and Kostlan took 18th and 27th in the Discus throw. In the men’s 300m Hurdles Sophomore Abas Jemal ran a personal best 41. 55, earning him a lane for the finals. In the finals Jemal ran 41.66, a time that placed him 5th overall. Senior Nate Shandy represented the Blue Devils in the men’s throws. He placed 29th in the discus with a personal best throw of 119’10.” In the distance events, top six finishers in the finals were Thad Sieracki (3rd 1600 meters), Heather West (6th 800 meters), and Kaitlin Gregg (6th 1600 meters), all with season or lifetime bests. Lifetime or season best times were also recorded by Dustin Schelegle (1600m, 3200m), Steve Buchanan (1600m, 800m), Kyle Buchoff (3200m), Brendan Gregg (1600m), Patrick Lynch (1600m), Elizabeth Bertolani (1600m, 3200m), Grace Pettygrove, (1600m), Sarah Chan (1600m), and Chelsea Reilly (1600m, 3200m). The Davis High School Track and Field team’s next competition will be at home vs. Will C. Wood on April 28.
